ELECTRIC HAIR REMOVAL

ELECTRIC HAIR REMOVAL

At SEV Skin & Hair Aesthetic, electrolysis is used to treat excessive hair growth or unwanted hair growth. Excessive hair can often be treated with a laser, but in some cases, electrolysis is more suitable.

Electrolysis can be used on all hair colors, but is primarily used for thin or light hairs (such as gray, white, blond, and red) that cannot be treated with laser hair removal. It is also used when treating individual hairs or a combination of light and dark hairs on the face.

What is electric hair removal?

Electrolysis is a form of permanent hair removal. We use this method to combat unwanted hair growth. Using a thin, sterile needle that delivers electrical pulses, the hair roots and follicles are destroyed one by one. The remaining hair is removed from the follicle using tweezers. It's an intensive process because the hairs must be removed one by one.

The benefits of electric hair removal

The advantage of this method is that we can treat both dark and light skin and hair types. Electrolysis is possible year-round; summerproof. The effect of the treatment is permanent; you'll never need to epilate the treated areas again.

Am I eligible for electric epilation?

Any coarse hair type (and hair color) can be removed with electrolysis. All areas are suitable. We advise against using this technique on very thin (flax) hairs.

In rare cases, the skin may be too sensitive and we may advise you to stop the treatment after all techniques have been tried.

Can a hair that has been removed grow back?

We'll explain this using the hair growth cycle. Our hair's growth cycle consists of several phases: growth phase (1), resting phase (2), and shedding phase (3, see illustration). Hairs in the growth phase are connected to the hair's substrate. These hairs can be permanently removed. Hairs in the resting and shedding phases will remain intact because they no longer have a good connection to the substrate. These hairs will also grow back. Depending on the area, approximately 10 to 80% of the hair is in the growth phase. The length of time a hair stays in the growth phase varies by area. It sometimes appears that a hair that has just been removed reappears the following week. This is a different hair, which was right next to the removed hair. It can happen that multiple hairs grow from a single hair follicle.

OUR WORKING METHOD

01

No-obligation consultation

  • During the consultation, the hair removal specialist will explain everything about electrolysis. A skin and hair analysis will be performed to create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.

02

Preparing for electrolysis hair removal

  • Before the treatment, you should let the hairs grow for 3 to 5 days. This allows the hairs to be positioned correctly.
  • Check with your health insurance company whether electric epilation is covered by insurance; this varies per insurer.

03

The treatment

  • During electric epilation, the hairs are removed one by one.
  • A thin sterile needle is inserted into the hair follicle.
  • Then an electrical pulse is given, which causes the hair to release.
  • This destroys the hair follicle. The hair is then removed with tweezers.

04

After the treatment

  • During summer days, you should protect the treated area well from the sun. This is important because the skin can be sensitive for a few days after electrolysis.
  • Use a moisturizer SPF 50 here
