What is Acne?

Acne is a skin condition characterized by inflammation of the sebaceous gland, known as pimples. There are different types of acne. Acne can occur in various areas, such as the face, décolletage/chest, shoulders, and back. When the opening of a pore becomes clogged with sebum and dead skin cells, white comedones form. When inflammation occurs, pus forms in the pore, which is called a pimple. When the pore has dead skin cells, is open, and oxygen is present, it turns into black comedones. These are also called "blackheads." … (and so on)

What can I do about acne?

The most important thing is to keep your skin gently clean. Cleansing twice a day removes dirt, dead skin cells, and excess sebum. This gives bacteria less chance to thrive. In addition, a sebum-reducing and moisturizing product is important to balance your skin and protect it from internal and external influences. Wash your pillowcase every other day, preferably change it daily. Avoid dairy, pork, and minimize sugars. These can trigger acne and increase inflammation. A nutritional supplement, such as omega-3 or a detox program, can be very helpful for acne. Have your acne-prone skin treated by a skin specialist or skin therapist. Stop squeezing and picking at your skin. This often aggravates inflammation and leaves scars.

I have acne but my skin looks dry?

This is certainly possible. We often see acne in people with oily skin. However, acne can also occur in people with dry skin. Dry or dehydrated skin is extra susceptible to fungi and bacteria, which can in turn cause acne. When we have dehydrated skin, it reacts and can produce extra sebum. This, combined with the high number of dead skin cells, can also cause acne.

What works best against acne and oily skin?

It's important to restore your skin's balance and reduce sebum production. This can be achieved through a suitable skincare routine, consisting of a cleanser, serum, day cream with SPF, and a night cream. Salicylic acid, which actively dissolves sebum, is also often used. Skin specialists can advise you further, as every skin is unique. Hormones, lifestyle, and diet also influence acne.

How do I get rid of acne?

It's important to identify the source of your acne. Do you have an imbalance in your gut, are you experiencing a lot of stress, are your hormones affected, are you pregnant, or are you going through menopause? Do you suffer from excessive sebaceous gland activity, or an excess of dead skin cells? Once we understand the source of your acne, we can develop an effective treatment plan. This varies from person to person. In all cases, it's important to keep your skin clean and avoid picking at it. We recommend consulting a skin specialist or skin therapist for appropriate product and nutritional recommendations.

What is the best against acne?

In addition to a healthy lifestyle, diet, and treatment by a skin specialist, we recommend cleansing your skin twice daily with a mild cleanser. In addition, a deep cleansing with salicylic acid once a week to dissolve dead skin cells and sebum in the pores. Acne often has one or more causes, making it worthwhile to visit a skin specialist. They will give you appropriate advice on how to treat it.
